Celebrated annually on September 10th, is the official national day of the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. The day commemorates Gibraltar’s first sovereignty referendum of 1967, in which Gibraltarian voters were asked whether to pass under Spanish sovereignty, or remain under British sovereignty, with institutions of self-government.
Due to COVID-19 a lot of Gibraltarians based overseas could not celebrate National Day with their families. I decided to create these t-shirts as a way for people to be able to commemorate and (in a small way) celebrate Gibraltarian culture and community.
The illustrations hold reference to Gibraltarian culture.
I sold 100% stock of the t-shirts with a profit of 25% to people based in both the UK and Gibraltar. There were also demand for more to be made ahead of National Day 2021.
